Push down on each cushion and watch what happens. Slow to bounce back, feels damp, smells off — that foam needs to go. Replace it with closed-cell or quick-dry marine foam before you even think about re-covering. Putting fresh fabric over dead foam two days before guests arrive is just a waste of good fabric.

What cushion material actually survives a hard weekend of sun, salt, and sunscreen?

Dry everything completely and improve airflow. Mildew needs trapped moisture, so before the weekend, pull the cushions, stand them on their edges to dry fully, and clean the underlying surfaces.
