“I Thought I Was Invincible…”
“Bro…” I winced, dropping onto the bench after practice. “I swear I’ve never felt pain like this.”
He looked up, concerned. “What happened now?”
“During that scrimmage yesterday I dodged, planted, and my ankle just gave out. I mean completely. Like someone flipped a switch and I was done.”
His eyes widened. “Dude, that sounds awful.”
“It was. And the weird part? I hit the ground, and then suddenly my knee was barking at me too, like ‘Hey, don’t forget me!’” I groaned.
He shook his head. “That’s brutal. You okay to walk?”
“Barely,” I said with a half‑laugh. “Made me think… I always focused on speed and skill, but never really paid attention to support. Like having a good ankle support for lacrosse or even a knee support for lacrosse might’ve helped me brace better during those cuts.”
He nodded. “Yeah, those quick direction changes can wreck you if your body’s not ready.”
“Exactly,” I said, thinking back to yesterday. “So today, I took it slow warmed up, stretched, and even tried a bit of back support for lacrosse just to remind myself that I’m not invincible. You know?”
He laughed. “Welcome to adulthood.”
I smiled. “Honestly? I feel calmer now. Pain’s still there, but I’m actually thinking about playing smarter, not just harder.”
He clapped me on the shoulder. “That’s growth, man.”
